Officials at the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) issued a boil water advisory for several locations in Macomb County, Michigan, as well as the City of Rochester in Oakland County, Mich., on Aug. 1 following a water main break that occurred earlier in the day. While the GLWA has reportedly isolated the break and restored water pressure to impacted communities, the organization nonetheless plans to keep the advisory in place as it tests the water to determine if it is safe for consumption. The body has announced that the earliest the advisory could be lifted would be during the afternoon of Aug. 3.

The following locations are subject to the boil water advisory:

Macomb County

  • Chesterfield Township

  • Lenox Township

  • Macomb Township

  • Village of New Haven

Oakland County

  • City of Rochester (Rochester East - GLWA District)

Poor water quality could impact businesses and organizations that rely on public water.

Advice

Boil water for at least two minutes and allow it to cool before consumption. Follow these instructions for all water uses, including drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, and preparing food. Consider stocking up on bottled water supplies.
