Australia: Qantas Group subsidiary Network Aviation pilots plan to strike Oct. 4

Qantas Group subsidiary Network Aviation pilots to conduct 24-hour strike in WA, Australia, Oct. 4. Flight disruptions in likely.

Informational

Event

Qantas Group subsidiary Network Aviation (NWK) pilots in Western Australia plan to conduct a 24-hour strike on Oct. 4 over a pay dispute. Unless averted, the strike will affect NWK flights, mainly specializing in mining and corporate charter services, and possibly impact scheduled flights operated on behalf of QantasLink (QLK) out of Perth Airport (PER) to destinations throughout Western Australia.

The Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) union representing the striking pilots demands pay increases similar to comparable airlines. The AFAP represents more than 5,700 members and is Australia's largest organization representing commercial pilots. Organizers may cancel the planned action at short notice if their negotiations with Qantas Group management succeed.

Flight disruptions are likely and could extend for several hours after the strike ends as the airline repositions aircraft and clears passenger backlogs.

Advice

Confirm flight status and reservations during the labor action period. Do not check out of accommodations or leave for the airport until onward travel is confirmed.
