Togo: Fuel shortages possible nationwide through late September due to supply disruptions

Fuel shortages possible across Togo through the end of September amid supply disruptions. Related protests possible.

Warning

Event

Fuel shortages are possible nationwide through at least the end of September due to supply disruptions. Authorities announced Sept. 18 that the situation is back to normal. As of Sept. 20, however, the scarcity persists and has prompted long queues and price hikes at available fuel stations across the country, including in Lome. Some stations have also run out of stock, forcing some commuters to abandon their vehicles.

Increased demand at available fuel stations remains likely and may prompt congestion on nearby roads. Fuel shortages may affect business operations. Consumer frustration could manifest in the form of sporadic clashes near filling stations or street demonstrations if the shortage becomes protracted.

Advice

Plan for possible fuel shortages and long queues at gas stations. Confirm all ground transport services before travel. Do not buy fuel on the black market. Avoid all demonstrations.
