Australia: Flight disruptions reported at Sydney Airport as of early Oct. 5 due to strong winds

Strong winds cause flight disruptions at Sydney Airport, Australia, as of early Oct. 5. Confirm flight reservations.

Warning

Event

Strong winds have caused inbound and outbound flight disruptions at Sydney Airport (SYD) in New South Wales as of the morning of Oct. 5. Affected airlines include Jetstar (JQ), Qantas (QF), and Virgin Australia (VA). The high winds have reportedly caused the airport to limit flight operations to one runway and have led to the cancellation of at least 55 flights; additional flights scheduled to travel to and from SYD will likely be canceled or delayed over the coming hours.

Residual flight disruptions are possible even after weather conditions improve as airlines work to clear any passenger backlogs that have materialized.

Advice

Confirm flight reservations if traveling via SYD Oct. 5. Do not check out of your accommodations until verifying onward transport. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
