Pro-Palestinian rallies likely across Australia through mid-October. Gatherings planned in Canberra and Sydney. Disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

Pro-Palestine rallies are likely across Australia through mid-October amid the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestinian Territories. Hundreds of people gathered at Lakemba Station in southwest Sydney the evening of Oct. 8 in support of Palestine. Police deployed to the demonstration as a precautionary measure. Additionally, organizers have announced the following events:

  • Sydney: Sydney Town Hall at 17:30 Oct. 9

  • Canberra: Garema Place at 17:30 Oct. 13

Gatherings are possible in other cities and locations, especially outside government buildings as well as at public squares and parks. Dozens to several hundred people could participate in each demonstration.

Authorities will likely monitor protests and may try to disperse disruptive gatherings. While actions will probably pass peacefully, minor skirmishes between police and activists remain possible. Activists may march along and block roadways, prompting localized transport and business disruptions.

Advice

Avoid protests as a precaution. Seek alternative routes to circumvent known gathering locations and allow additional time to reach destinations near impacted areas.
