Canada: Police lift alert, detain armed suspect in Thorburn, Nova Scotia, Oct. 30 /update 1

Police in Thorburn, Nova Scotia, detained an armed suspect Oct. 30, following an assault in Greenwood Street. Authorities said at least one person was injured in the incident. The man was armed with an axe and had escaped into the woods following the initial assault.

Authorities had issued an emergency alert for residents in Pictou, Antigonish, and Colchester counties, and a shelter-in-place advisory in Thorburn; these were all lifted following the man's arrest.

Minimal lingering disruptions in the area are possible as police investigation the incident.
