Authorities are responding to reports of a possible chemical leak aboard a passenger train at the Sendai Station in Miyagi the afternoon of Oct. 9. The incident has caused minor injuries to at least three passengers on a Tokyo-bound train. Police are yet to confirm the cause of the incident, which has prompted the suspension of the affected train and delays to other services between Morioka and Tokyo stations.

Increased security will likely continue in the area until authorities complete investigations and give the all-clear. Localized transport disruptions may occur to facilitate movement of emergency crews. Additional suspension of rail services and/or evacuations and localized business disruptions are possible if authorities confirm a threat to the community.
