Heightened security, traffic disruptions likely in Nairobi and Mombasa counties, Kenya, during King Charles III's visit Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

Informational

Heightened security and traffic disruptions are likely in parts of Nairobi and Mombasa counties Oct. 31-Nov. 3 during a royal visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla of England. The King will attend official meetings at the State House, UN office, and Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, as well as the Mtongwe Naval Base in Mombasa County. The precise details of the royals' schedule have not been released, likely for security reasons.

Security measures during the visit will include extensive road closures and checkpoints and a visibly increased police presence in central and sensitive areas. Increased security and transport disruptions are likely near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), the State House, UN office, Uhuru Gardens, and Mtongwe Naval Base. Demonstrations, while unlikely, are possible although any such gatherings should remain peaceful. Security personnel will likely seek to rapidly disperse any gathering that becomes unruly.

Spontaneous anti-government protests from opposition or civil society groups cannot be ruled out. Security personnel will likely move swiftly and decisively to disperse any such demonstrations.

Exercise caution around event locations in Nairobi Oct. 31- Nov. 3. Plan for localized transport disruptions, including near NBO. Keep away from any location where security forces appear to be deploying. Avoid any protests that materialize. Abide by all official directives.
