Puerto Rico: Pro-Palestinian activists to demonstrate in central San Juan Oct. 17

Activists plan to hold a rally in downtown San Juan on Oct. 17 to show solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and condemn recent actions by the government of Israel. Demonstrators will gather outside the Federal Court along Avenida Chardon starting at 16:00. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security near the Federal Court building for the duration of the demonstration. Localized transport disruptions are possible. Although the gathering will probably remain largely peaceful, low-level clashes cannot be ruled out if activists from rival groups attempt to stage counter-protests nearby.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Heed the instructions of local security personnel. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the demonstration venue; leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
