Sri Lanka: Rail workers call off strike in Colombo as of Oct. 6 /update 1

Rail workers affiliated with the Railway Guards Association have called off a strike in Colombo as of Oct. 6 following talks with the Transport State Minister and Sri Lanka Railways officials. Participants of the action, which began the evening of Oct. 4, were demanding the suspension of a security officer who allegedly assaulted a railway guard. Workers may call for a fresh strike at short notice if the authorities fail to meet their demands.
