UK: Pro-Palestine activists to stage protest march in central London Oct. 28
Pro-Palestine activists to hold protest march from Victoria Embankment to Parliament Square, London, UK, from 12:00 Oct. 28.
Several activist groups, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign UK, will hold a protest march in central London during the afternoon of Oct. 28. The purpose of the action is to demand an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Participants will assemble on the Victoria Embankment, south of the Embankment underground station, starting at 12:00 before marching to Parliament Square. The route will take demonstrators south along the Victoria Embankment (A3211), eastward across the Westminster Bridge, and subsequently moving north along the A3200 and Waterloo Bridge. Marchers will then move southward along Strand, Whitehall, and Parliament Street to their final destination.
Several prominent members of Parliament are slated to take part and address the gathering. While it remains unclear exactly how many participants may attend, the event will probably draw very large crowds. Authorities estimate that a similar march organized by the same groups on Oct. 21 drew as many as 100,000 participants.
Heightened security and significant transport disruptions are likely along the march route and throughout surrounding areas, including on the London Underground. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, frustrated motorists, or politically opposed bystanders cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the march route. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
