Angola: Railway union members plan to strike indefinitely across southern provinces from Nov. 23
Unionized railway workers plan indefinite strike in southern Angola from Nov. 23 amid wage dispute. Rail transport disruptions likely.
Unionized workers of the Mocamedes Railway (CFM) have announced plans to stage a total work stoppage in the southern provinces from Nov. 23. They are demanding better wages and working conditions, amongst other grievances. Strike action began on Nov. 16, but had been contained to the Namibe province, and minimum services were still guaranteed.
The strike will likely cause disruptions to rail services throughout southern Angola. Increased demand for other forms of transport is possible. Residual disruptions are possible after the work stoppages conclude. Striking workers may protest outside railway stations and other transport hubs.
Reconfirm rail schedules and travel plans. Avoid any demonstrations that may materialize. Heed instructions from authorities.
