Bulgaria: Agricultural activists to conduct protest march in Sofia Nov. 30 /update 1

Activists plan march from Ministry of Agriculture to Council of Ministers in Sofia, Bulgaria, at 10:30 Nov. 30. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Members of several farmers' advocacy organizations plan to hold a protest march in central Sofia from 10:30 Nov. 30. Participants will gather at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (55 Hristo Botev Boulevard) before marching to the Council of Ministers (1 Knyaz Alexander Dondukov Boulevard); organizers have not announced a march route. The purpose of the action is to demand the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture. It is unclear how many demonstrators may attend; however, local media described demonstrators at a Nov. 30 protest by the same organizations as numbering in the hundreds.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the march route. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
