Cameroon: Attack leaves at least nine killed and others kidnapped in Bamenyam, West Region, Nov. 21
Unidentified assailants kill at least nine and kidnap others in Bamenyam, West Region, Cameroon, early Nov. 21.
Dozens of unidentified assailants riding motorcycles raided a market in Bamenyam, West Region, on the morning of Nov. 21. The locality borders the Norwest Region. Attackers killed at least nine residents, kidnapped an unspecified number, and set fire and looted some shops and vehicles. There have been no confirmed claims of responsibility; the attack may have been carried out by Ambazonia separatists operating in the Southwest and Northwest regions of Cameroon.
Security forces have likely established roadblocks, checkpoints, and search vehicles and personnel, including along the D72 road crossing the locality and the nearby N6 road between Bamenda and Bafoussam. Armed clashes involving fleeing attackers and security forces cannot be ruled out.
