Motorcyclist groups to stage road protests in urban centers in southern France, Nov. 25; heightened security, traffic disruptions likely.

Informational

Motorcyclists' groups plan to stage road protests in southern France, Nov. 25. The FFMC (Federation of Angry French Motorcyclists) and other motorcycling federations are denouncing the introduction of mandatory roadworthiness checks from April 2024. Groups are planning to assemble in urban centers nationwide, and then ride in convoys to disrupt traffic in cities and on major roads. Several hundred protesters are likely to join these convoys, based on previous events. As of Nov. 23, limited details of meeting points and routes have been published, however, the largest events are likely to be:

  • Avignon: Participants will gather at 14:00 at the Prefecture du Vaucluse.

  • Cannes: Participants will gather at 13:00 at La Bocca-Coubertin, and ride in convoy towards Antibes.

  • Marseille: Participants will gather at 09:30, and ride in convoy towards Montpellier.

  • Nice: Participants will gather at 13:00 at Allianz Riviera, and ride in convoy towards Antibes.

Additional police are likely to be deployed to monitor and facilitate the events. The protests and related security measures, such as road closures and movement restrictions, will likely result in localized and temporary transport disruptions. The convoys are likely to proceed peacefully.

Avoid the demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from authorities. Check for disruptions and allow extra time to reach destinations.
