Multiple demonstrations related to Israel-Hamas conflict planned in urban centers across France Nov. 11-12. Increased security likely.

Warning

Political leaders and activist groups will hold demonstrations related to the Israel-Hamas conflict in urban centers across France on Nov. 11 and 12. The largest demonstration will likely be a "great march" organized by several political leaders against antisemitism in central Paris on Nov. 12. The leaders of the two chambers of parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate, have called for the demonstration to unite the country following an upsurge in antisemitism in recent weeks. Participants will march from the National Assembly and Les Invalides at 15:00 and converge at the Senate. The prime minister will take part in the march, and the president may also participate. It is possible that tens of thousands of people will join the demonstration.

Details of other potentially disruptive gatherings are as follows:

Nov. 11

  • Paris: La France Insoumise party organizes a demonstration in Place de la Republique denouncing conflict and calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas from 15:00.

  • Rennes: The Force Ouvriere union will lead a demonstration in Place de la Republique calling for world peace from 14:30.

  • Rennes: Political parties, unions, and activist groups will hold a rally in Place de la Republique calling for a ceasefire in Gaza from 15:00.

Nov. 12

  • Strasbourg: Political parties and activist groups will march from Place de l’Universite to Place de la Republique to denounce anti-semitism from 11:00.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of each gathering, as well as along their march routes. Related gatherings are likely in other urban centers nationwide. Low-level confrontations between rival demonstrators, as well as with police, cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the vicinity of all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near announced demonstrations. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
