Indonesia: Anti-LGBTQ group calls for possible protests against British rock band concert in Jakarta, Nov. 15

Anti-LGBTQ protests possible against British band Coldplay at several locations in Jakarta, Indonesia, Nov. 15. Increased security likely.

Informational

Anti-LGBTQ organization Gerakan Nasional Anti LGBT (Granati LGBT) could stage protests at several locations in Jakarta, Nov. 15. The purpose is to demand British rock band Coldplay cancel its concert in Jakarta, 18:00 Nov. 15, over its support for the LGBTQ community. The activists are threatening to commit arson at the concert at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, although authorities are likely to heighten security to prevent disruptions to the concert. The protestors are also planning to gather at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) and demonstrate at the band's hotel if information about the band's arrival time or the location of the hotel is made available. The start time of the possible action is unclear. Organizers expect thousands of participants to join the rallies, although actual attendance is likely to be dozens to a few hundred people.

A heightened security presence is likely around possible protest sites, especially at GBK Stadium. Associated transport disruptions are probable, especially if demonstrators march along or block roadways. Isolated scuffles may occur between police and activists, posing incidental risks to bystanders.

Avoid any protests that may materialize. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near gathering sites, especially if travelling via CGK. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
