A magnitude-5.0 earthquake occurred in Papua Province at around 11:21 Nov. 16. The epicenter was about 251 km (156 miles) southwest of Abepura. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 89 km (55 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout parts of Papua and Highland Papua provinces. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are likely over the coming days.
