US, Canada: Pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrations to continue in multiple cities through at least late November /update 12

Pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli activists to rally in several cities across US and Canada through late November. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Further rallies by pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli activists are likely across the US and Canada through at least mid-November in response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Organizers have announced the following large gathering in support of Israel:

  • Washington, DC: National Mall, 13:00 Nov. 14

Additionally, some pro-Palestine demonstrations have been confirmed, including:

  • Indianapolis, Ind.: Monument Circle, 15:45 Nov. 14

  • Salt Lake City, Ut.: Utah State Capitol, 15:00 Nov. 15

A large number of pro-Palestine protests are expected throughout the US and Canada Nov. 17, but details have not been provided yet. Times and locations of these protests will be found here.

Most demonstrations will probably draw hundreds of attendees, with participation in the thousands or tens of thousands likely in some major cities during weekend days, including in the Washington, DC, pro-Israeli protest Nov. 14. Further demonstrations are likely. Such events may occur near Israeli or Palestinian diplomatic offices, synagogues, mosques, identifiably Jewish or Palestinian business premises, public squares, universities, and major government buildings. Recent protests have also targeted ports and industries. Counterprotests could occur in some locations.

Clashes between opposing sides have occurred, especially within university campuses, or in large protests in downtown locations. Some threatening actions, including harassment, graffiti paintings, removals of flags or posters, as well as violent actions, including gunshots, have occurred against Jewish and Muslim institutions and organizations. These may continue to occur.

A heightened security presence is likely near protest sites. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are probable. Clashes between rival demonstrators or police and protesters are possible; vandalism may also occur.

Additionally, some schools and religious centers may close or limit their hours of operation; extra deployments of police or private security are possible near such locations.

Exercise caution near any protests that materialize. Heed instructions from authorities. Plan for localized road travel delays. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
