Warning

Activists affiliated with the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (KNSB) plan to rally and hold a motorized march in central Sofia on Dec. 18 to demand higher salaries for public workers. Participants will gather at Knyaz Alexander I near the National Assembly for a rally at 10:00. Demonstrators will then form a motorcade and travel around the city center from 11:00. It is unclear how many participants may attend. The motorized protest will pass through the following locations:

  • Knyaz Alexander I Square

  • Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard

  • Orlov Bridge

  • Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard

  • Aviation Square

  • Evlogi i Hristo Georgievi Boulevard

  • Bulgaria Boulevard

  • Petko Y. Todorov Boulevard

  • General Eduard I Totleben Boulevard

  • Russian Monument Square

  • General M. D. Skobelev Boulevard

  • Todor Aleksandrov Boulevard

  • Nezavisimost Square

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are almost certain along the march route. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators, law enforcement officers, or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Sofia. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
