Germany: Truck drivers, farmers, and workers in other vehicle-based industries to stage protest convoys nationwide Dec. 16 /update 1

Protest convoys planned throughout Germany Dec. 16. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Farmers, truck drivers, and workers in other vehicle-based industries plan to stage protest convoys in cities nationwide Dec. 16. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce increased tolls for CO2 emissions, proposed cuts to agricultural diesel relief, and vehicle tax exemptions. The action follows a similar event on Nov. 4 in Hellbron, during which 200 trucks took part. Other protests have taken place in Cologne and Wiesbaden in recent weeks.

Transport disruptions are likely near all demonstration routes. Heightened security is likely near all demonstration routes. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid protest sites. Allow additional time for travel in urban areas in Germany Dec. 16. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
