Authorities have deployed at least 1,500 additional police personnel for the funeral procession of the late Governor of Papua Province, Lukas Enembe, Dec. 28. The march began earlier this morning at Dortheys Hiyo Eluay International Airport (DJJ), also known as Sentani Airport, Jayapura. The procession will move towards Evangelical High School of Theology (STAKIN Sentani), where members of the public can pay their respects, before arriving at Koya Tengah, Muara Tami District. According to local media reports, hundreds of people gathered at DJJ ahead of the procession; over a thousand people could join the parade.

A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are likely along the funeral procession route. Protests are possible; authorities will likely move quickly to disperse any demonstrations that materialize. Scuffles between demonstrators and police are possible, especially if the participants are overly disruptive.

Koya Tengah is approximately 17 km (10.6 miles) west of Jayapura.

Avoid the affected area as a precaution and to minimize travel delays. Allow additional time for journeys in the affected area. Heed all official directives. Leave the area at the first sign of scuffles.
