Authorities have deployed to Baghdad's Amil District after armed clashes broke out in the area late Dec. 25. The clashes, which involved members of Saraya al-Salam and Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, occurred after members of the former group reportedly replaced pictures of election candidates posted on local lamp poles with their own symbols; at least two members of Saraya al-Salam were injured in the clashes. Security forces temporarily closed entrances to the affected area following the outbreak of the violence.
Transport and business disruptions are likely over the coming hours in locations impacted by the clashes and heightened security measures.
