Gun and bomb attack targets police in Daraban, Dera Ismail Khan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, Dec. 12. Dozens of casualties.

Militants attacked the Daraban Police Station in Daraban, Dera Ismail Khan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, early Dec. 12. The attack, which included a truck bomb and ground assault, left at least 23 officials dead and 36 more injured. Security personnel responded killing all six attackers. Tehrik-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) has reportedly claimed the attack.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture in the surrounding area through at least the evening of Dec. 12. Disruptions to road travel and business operations are possible.

Daraban is approximately 200 km (124 miles) north-northwest of Multan.

Strictly avoid the area until the situation stabilizes and authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional to reach destinations near the impacted location. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
