Pakistan: MQM-P party to stage rallies across Sindh Province through mid-December

MQM-P party to stage rallies in Sindh Province, Pakistan, through mid-December ahead of general elections. Avoid all demonstrations.

Warning

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) will stage a series of rallies across Sindh Province through mid-December to mobilize grassroots-level support ahead of Pakistan's Feb. 8, 2024, general elections. MQM-P leaders have announced the following dates and locations for political gatherings:

  • Dec. 10: Maymar Town, Karachi

  • Dec. 15: Mirpur Khas

  • Dec. 22: Hyderabad

Related rallies at times and locations other than those listed above cannot be ruled out. Rival political parties could also stage demonstrations and/or counterdemonstrations at short notice. Potential gathering venues include political party offices, government buildings, press clubs, public squares, sports fields, and major thoroughfares. Such gatherings could attract several thousand participants. MQM-P leaders could cancel or postpone any scheduled events with little-to-no notice for various reasons, including issues related to law enforcement or organizational challenges.

Authorities will almost certainly monitor any such gatherings that materialize and may move to disperse overly disruptive crowds. Isolated clashes between police and activists and between groups of opposing rival camps cannot be ruled out. Demonstrators will probably march along or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions. Associated localized business disruptions are possible.

Avoid all demonstrations due to the potential for violence. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near gathering sites. Plan accordingly for possible localized business disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
