Pakistan: Protesters gather in Quetta, Dec. 21

Baloch activists, including the Balochistan Yakjehti Committee, are protesting near the University of Balochistan in Quetta, Dec. 21. Unconfirmed reports state that demonstrators are blocking part of Sariab Road that runs north to south through the center of the city. There have been no reports of violence. Activists called the action to denounce the arrest and dispersal of Baloch protesters by state security forces, Dec. 20.

Baloch activists may call for further protests in the coming days. Rallies and protests in cities and towns in Balochistan along roads, near universities, and in city centers are possible. Security forces are likely to deploy to all protest sites. The potential for confrontations is elevated, particularly if protesters ignore police orders to disperse. Road travel delays are likely near all protest sites.
