Opposition activists plan to protest in Nis and Subotica from 18:00 Dec. 22. Participants will gather at the Nis City Assembly (24 Nikola Pasic Street) in Nis and Jadran Theater in Subotica. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce alleged irregularities in the Dec. 17 elections; the planned protests follow four days of related demonstrations in Belgrade. It was not immediately clear how many individuals would participate in the protests.
Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near the demonstration sites. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the Nis City Assembly or Jadran Theater. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
