UK: Adverse weather across the UK Dec. 30-31; related disruptions ongoing /update 1

Weather warnings across the UK dec. 30-31. Eurostar and Southeastern disruptions, Dec. 30. Further public transport disruptions likely.

Adverse weather conditions continue to impact parts of the UK, Dec. 30. The Met Office UK is maintaining yellow rain and snow and ice warnings across much of Scotland. A yellow rain warning is in effect for Northern Ireland. A yellow rain warning is in place for Wales and yellow wind warnings are in place for much of southern England. Yellow wind warnings are in effect for Wales and southern England on Dec. 31. For the full list of warnings, please click here. In addition, Environment Agency England issued dozens of flood alerts across much of England, Dec. 30. The Scottish Environment and Protection Agency and Natural Resources Wales have also issued some flood alerts. Authorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as conditions change over the coming days.

Travel disruptions are ongoing in several locations.

  • Eurostar services are suspended due to flooding in a tunnel at Ebbsfleet International station in Kent.

  • Southeastern Railways has indicated that there are no trains between Ebbsfleet International and London St Pancras International through Dec. 30 due to flooding.

Further disruptions to road, train, air, and maritime travel are likely through Dec. 31 with lingering disruptions possible through Jan. 1. Localized business disruptions are probable in low-lying areas; some businesses might not operate at full capacity because of flood damage to facilities, possible evacuations, and some employees' inability to reach work sites.

Monitor local media for weather-related updates and advisories. Confirm all transport reservations before traveling in affected areas. Seek updated information on road conditions before driving or routing shipments through areas affected by severe weather; plan for possible supply chain disruptions throughout the affected areas. Stay away from elevated streams, creeks, and other watercourses that are prone to flash flooding. Do not attempt to navigate flooded roadways. Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged electricity outages.
