Adverse winter weather conditions forecast across parts of Ontario and Quebec, Canada, through Jan. 26. Hazardous travel conditions likely.

Warning

Adverse winter weather conditions are forecast across parts of southeastern Ontario and southwestern Quebec, including Ottawa and Montreal, through at least Jan. 26. Freezing rain is expected across the area late Jan. 24-early Jan. 25, with a second spell of freezing rain likely Jan. 26. As of early Jan. 24, Environment Canada has issued red freezing rain warnings across the affected area. Officials will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming hours. Ice accretions of 0.5-1cm (0.2-0.4 inches) are possible across the affected area Jan. 24-25. Hazardous driving conditions are likely across the affected area due to icy roads.

The inclement weather will likely cause widespread ground and air transport disruptions across the affected areas. Traffic and commercial trucking delays are probable along regional highways. Dangerous and challenging driving conditions are also likely on secondary and rural roads as maintenance crews prioritize clearing major routes. Authorities will likely close stretches of highways if driving conditions become too hazardous. The disruptive weather will likely cause delays and cancellations at airports in the affected region due to ground stops and deicing operations.

Monitor local media for updated weather information. Verify road conditions before driving in areas where freezing rain is forecast. Allow extra time to reach destinations in these areas and carry an emergency kit and warm clothes if driving is necessary, especially on secondary or rural routes that could become impassable. If routing shipments by truck through the affected area, plan accordingly for delivery delays. Confirm flights. Charge battery-powered devices in the case of prolonged electricity outages.
