Activists plan to protest in Athens, Drama, and Thessaloniki Jan. 21 to denounce government consideration of the legalization of same-sex marriage. It is unclear how many participants may attend the gatherings. Demonstrations are planned at the following locations and times:
Athens: Syntagma Square, 18:00
Drama: Freedom Square (Plateia Eleftherias), 12:30
Thessaloniki: White Tower of Thessaloniki (Lefkos Pyrgos Thessalonikis), 12:00
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstrations. Low-level confrontations between protesters and law enforcement officers or supporters of rival political camps cannot be ruled out.
