Officials have announced increased security, road closures, and traffic diversions around Central Jakarta for a large event by the Islamic organization Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Jakarta, 00:01-08:25, Jan. 20. The event is to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the organization, and will be attended by President Joko Widodo. Organizers expect over 150,000 people to join the gathering.

Authorities are enforcing road closures and traffic diversions in Central Jakarta from Senayan Roundabout to the National Monument to reduce traffic as event attendees return to the designated parking area around the National Monument, from 09:00. Officials are expecting the traffic restrictions to end around 14:00. Increased congestion and traffic delays are likely in Central Jakarta through at least 14:00.

Police will deploy 1,878 officials to monitor the event and may disperse overly disruptive crowds. Overcrowding and stampedes cannot be ruled out. Opportunistic crime such as pickpocketing may occur.

Unless attending, consider avoiding the affected area in Central Jakarta Jan. 20 due to increased security measures and road closures. Confirm road status and public transport schedules.
