Japan: Disruptions to domestic flights at Tokyo's Haneda International Airport likely to continue through at least early January
Domestic flight disruptions at Japan's Tokyo Haneda International Airport likely through at least early January. Reconfirm flights.
Delays and cancellations will likely continue to impact domestic flights serving Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND) through at least early January. One of the facility's four runways remains closed as of Jan. 4 as authorities continue their investigation into the fatal aircraft collision between Japan Airlines (JL) flight 516 and a Japanese Coast Guard aircraft that occurred early Jan. 2. Airport officials have determined that the affected runway will require repair work, although they are as yet uncertain as to when the runway will reopen.
As of Jan. 4, Japan Airlines (JL) and ANA All Nippon Airways (NH) have canceled more than 100 domestic flights at HND; there have as yet been no disruptions to international flights.
Contact airlines to reconfirm flight schedules if flying via HND, particularly on domestic flights. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow additional travel time to mitigate any possible delays. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
