Adverse winter weather conditions are forecast across Kosovo and Serbia through at least Jan. 19. As of early Jan. 17, the Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMS) of Serbia has issued the following weather warnings:
- Red snow and ice warnings (highest level on a three-tier scale): Eastern Serbia Jan. 18.
- Orange snow and ice warnings: Eastern Serbia Jan. 17.
- Yellow snow, ice, and strong wind warnings: Across the rest of Serbia Jan. 17-19.
Officials could update and extend the coverage of weather alerts over the coming days.
In addition to the heavy snow, strong wind gusts could lead to periods of blowing and drifting snow. Sporadic power outages are possible throughout the affected area.
The winter weather will likely cause ground transport disruptions in the region over the coming days. Traffic and commercial trucking delays are probable along regional highways.
