Additional water outages in Penang, Malaysia, postponed to 23:30 Jan. 30. Commercial disruptions possible.
The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has postponed planned water supply interruptions to 23:30 Jan. 30 for parts of George Town and Seberang Perai in Penang. Water disruptions due to ongoing repair works have affected 120,000 customers since Jan. 23 following a major leak in an underwater pipeline section in Sungai Perai. Affected areas include parts of northeast and southwest Penang Island district and central and south Sebarang Perai district. Authorities expect to fully restore the water supply by Feb. 2, though delays are possible.
Officials are deploying water tankers to the affected areas. Some business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely heavily on municipal water to maintain operations.
Stock up on drinking water. Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Minimize nonessential water use throughout the outage. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
