Emergency personnel are responding to several explosions and a related fire near Ulaanbaatar's Dunjingarav Shopping Center early Jan. 24. The incident reportedly began when a vehicle carrying 60 tons of gas exploded during a traffic accident, setting nearby buildings ablaze. Officials have evacuated area residents and have largely contained the fire. The incident has reportedly left three people dead and ten others wounded.

Officials will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture for at least several hours after the fire is completely extinguished in order to facilitate their investigation. Authorities may close local roads or issue evacuation orders depending on the needs of the emergency response. Related localized transport and business disruptions are likely.
