Philippines: Power outage occurring in several provinces in western Visayas region as of Jan. 2

Power outage affecting several provinces in western Visayas region, Philippines, as of Jan. 2. Business disruptions possible.

Warning

An unplanned power outage is affecting Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental provinces in the western Visayas region as of Jan. 2. The power agency National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) attributed the outage, which began at around 14:00, to multiple power trips across electricity plants on Panay Island. Authorities are working to restore power but have not provided a timeframe for power supply recovery.

Commercial and transport disruptions are possible during the outages. Businesses without backup generators may have to suspend operations. Traffic lights may not function, resulting in traffic disruptions. The power outage may also prompt brief municipal water outages and interruptions to electronic water filtration systems. Lingering disruptions are possible after the power supply resumes.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Ensure that generators are functional if operating in affected areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working, including after power resumes. Follow all security personnel instructions.
