US: Communications issue prompts authorities to temporarily suspend train services between New York, N.Y., and Philadelphia, Pa., Jan. 12

Amtrak says trains suspended between New York., N.Y., and Philadelphia, Pa., US, Jan. 12 amid communications issue; confirm rail schedules.

Warning

Amtrak authorities reported that they had temporarily suspended all train services between New York, New York, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as of 11:00 Jan. 12 due to a communications issue impacting signals and switches in the region. Additionally, New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ Transit) authorities have reported that all train services on the Northeast Corridor, Raritan Valley Line, and North Jersey Coast Line were suspended as of 10:22 due to Amtrak signal problems. Midtown Direct services have been diverted to Hoboken, and Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) services are cross-honoring NJ Transit rail tickets and passes at Newark Penn, Hoboken, and 33rd Street-N.Y. stations.

Lingering train disruptions will likely impact the affected lines, including after services resumes as authorities work to clear any rail transport backlog that materializes. Increased demand for alternative modes of transportation is likely in the Northeast Corridor, particularly between New York, N.Y., and Philadelphia, over the coming hours.

Confirm train schedules and prepare for rail service disruptions if planning to travel on lines operating between New York, N.Y., and Philadelphia Jan. 12. Allow extra time to reach your destination. Consider booking alternative modes of transportation for time-sensitive travel.
