Officials have resumed cross-border trade at the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing, connecting Afghanistan and Pakistan, as of Feb. 28. Authorities closed the border since October 2023 due to various demonstrations, including sit-ins and road blockades, to denounce the Pakistani government's decision to limit cross-border travel to those with a valid passport and visa. The decision to reopen the border is reportedly to facilitate the movement of goods for the month of Ramadan, which begins in March. Intermittent border closures may recur and are not uncommon, especially if unrest escalates near the border crossing. Potential protest sites include police stations, government buildings, public squares, press clubs, and thoroughfares. Well-attended gatherings have previously drawn thousands of participants.
