Activists from various groups have called for rallies in multiple cities Feb. 20-21 to show solidarity with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Organizers will hold gatherings in the following cities:
Adelaide: Senator Penny Wong's office along Gouger Street from 16:30 Feb. 20
Brisbane: King George Square from 12:00 Feb. 20
Canberra: British High Commission 10:00 Feb. 20 - 17:00 Feb. 21
Melbourne: British Consulate General 17:45 Feb. 20 - 17:00 Feb. 21
Related demonstrations are also possible in other major urban centers. However, organizers have not yet confirmed further details. The protests are likely to draw dozens to hundreds of participants.
A heightened security presence is likely around protest sites. Localized transport disruptions are probable, especially if activists march on or block roadways. Isolated scuffles are possible.
Exercise caution near protest sites. Depart the area at the first sign of security disturbance. Seek alternative routes to circumvent related transport disruptions and allow additional time to reach destinations. Do not attempt to navigate around protester-erected roadblocks; allow police to dismantle them before proceeding. Plan accordingly for localized business disruptions. Heed instructions from authorities.
