Australia: Network Aviation and QantasLink pilots plan to hold a 24-hour strike across Western Australia on Feb. 8

Network Aviation and QantasLink pilots to conduct a 24-hour strike in WA, Australia, Feb. 8. Reconfirm flights.

Warning

Pilots from the Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) will strike for 24 hours across Western Australia on Feb. 8. The strike follows failed wage negotiations with Qantas (QF) management. Unless averted, the strike will likely affect Network Aviation (NWK) flights, mainly specializing in emergency freight, mining, and private charter services, and impact scheduled flights operated on behalf of QantasLink (QLK) out of Perth Airport (PER) to destinations throughout Western Australia. Previous similar strike action that occurred in October 2023 disrupted at least 40 flights to and from regional towns and mine sites. Organizers may cancel the planned action at short notice if their negotiations with Qantas Group management succeed.

Flight disruptions are likely and could extend for several hours after the strike ends as the airline repositions aircraft and clears passenger backlogs. Strike-related protests are possible, mainly near airports and airline offices, as well as public squares. Dozens of people may attend each event. Authorities could deploy increased security near any rallies that may materialize. Localized business and transport disruptions are possible at related gatherings.

Confirm flight status and reservations during the labor action period. Do not check out of accommodations or leave for the airport until onward travel is confirmed. Avoid all protests as a precaution.
