Bolivia: Protesters set up roadblocks in several locations on La Paz-Oruro highway south of La Paz Feb. 29

Protesters block La Paz-Oruro highway in multiple spots south of La Paz, Bolivia, Feb. 29; increased security, traffic disruptions likely.

Warning

Protesters from District 8 of El Alto have gathered to block the La Paz-Oruro highway (National Route 1) in several locations between the Senkata area of El Alto and Achica Arriba, south of La Paz, Feb. 29. The purpose of the protest activity is to demand that legislators approve funding for the expansion of the Senkata-Apacheta segment of the La Paz-Oruro highway.

Significant traffic disruptions are likely on the route for the duration of the protest activity, including to and from El Alto International Airport (LPB). Police will likely deploy to the protest sites. Clashes between security forces and demonstrators are possible, especially if police attempt to forcibly disperse the protesters and reopen the highway.

Avoid the protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Allow for additional transport time if operating in the affected areas. Do not attempt to drive through roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
