France: Unionized tram and bus workers plan to strike across Ile-de-France Feb. 8

Unionized tram and bus workers plan to strike across Ile-de-France, France, Feb. 8. Transport disruptions likely. Protests possible.

Warning

Unionized tram and bus workers affiliated with the CGT-RATP (General Confederation of Labor-Paris Autonomous Transport Administration) plan to strike across Ile-de-France Feb. 8. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand salary increases. The strike announcement came after CGT-RATP leadership published a notice warning of possible strikes from Feb. 5 to Sept. 9. As of Feb. 2, CGT-RATP had not announced whether affiliated metro and train workers would participate in the Feb. 8 work stoppage.

Should the strike move forward, tram and bus disruptions are likely across Ile-de-France Feb. 8; disruptions may continue into the morning hours of Feb 9. Metro or train disruptions are possible if CGT-RATP-affiliated workers in those sectors join the strike. Picket protests may occur near transport hubs or government buildings; heightened security and localized transport disruptions will likely accompany such demonstrations.

Reconfirm transport availability and reservations Feb. 8. Seek alternatives to tram and bus travel in Ile-de-France and allow additional travel time. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution.
