French Guiana: Unionized fuel station managers continue territorywide indefinite strike as of Feb. 1
Fuel disruptions likely as unionized fuel station managers continue indefinite strike in French Guiana as of Feb. 1.
Managers affiliated with the Group of Service Station Managers of French Guiana (Groupement des gerants de stations-services de Guyane, GGSSG) are continuing an indefinite strike as of Feb. 1. The action is resulting in the closure of fuel stations territorywide. The action began on Jan. 31; managers of service stations in the territory are demanding higher profit margins.
Temporary fuel shortages are likely over the coming days. Long queues at refilling stations and other fuel depots are likely. Demonstrations against shortages may occur. Likely protest locations include fuel distribution areas or government buildings. Security forces will almost certainly deploy and attempt to disperse any gatherings that materialize.
Stock up on fuel when possible; if traveling long distances is unavoidable, ensure your tank is full and carry additional supplies. Ensure fuel supplies to generators; confirm delivery agreements. Avoid all protests as a precaution.
