Kyrgyzstan: Authorities attempting to restore heating in Bishkek following Feb. 2 thermal power plant incident

Authorities are working to restore central heating to parts of southern Bishkek following an explosion at a local thermal power plant in the early hours of Feb. 2. Authorities estimated as of Feb. 2 that it would take between two and seven days to restore central heating to affected areas. Five workers were reportedly injured in the explosion; authorities subsequently extinguished the resulting fire. Hot water supply is limited in affected areas. As of Feb. 2, around 60,000 apartments were impacted in microdistricts 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12, as well as in Kok-Zhar Microdistrict.
Business disruptions are likely in affected areas. Affected residences may become dangerously cold, particularly at night when freezing temperatures are likely.
If in an impacted area, consider seeking an alternate residence until heating and hot water are restored. Prepare for disruptions to business operations within impacted areas.
