Tight security likely after explosion reported near Election Commission of Pakistan office in Saddar area of Karachi, Pakistan, late Feb. 2.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain an increased security presence near the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in Karachi's Saddar area over the coming hours after an explosion occurred in the vicinity late Feb. 2. Explosive materials were reportedly placed in a shopping bag outside of the ECP building before the blast. Authorities did not immediately report any casualties in connection with the explosion, which impacted the exterior walls of the ECP facility. Police cordoned off the site of the blast following the incident.

Transport disruptions will likely impact the Saddar area over the coming hours. Similar incidents are possible in Karachi and other locations ahead of and amid the general elections scheduled on Feb. 8.

Avoid the incident site until officials issue the all-clear. Exercise increased caution if operating in the Saddar area of Karachi. Allow additional travel time in the affected area. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
