Paraguay: Pensioners plan to march in Asuncion Feb. 15
Paraguayan pensioners plan to march from the Cathedral of Asuncion to the National Congress from 08:00 Feb. 15. Disruptions likely.
Groups of pensioners affiliated with the National Union of Retirees of Paraguay (Union Nacional de Jubilados del Paraguay) plan to march in central Asuncion on Feb. 15. Participants will gather outside the Cathedral of Asuncion at 08:00 before marching to the National Congress. Protesters will demand that the Institute of Social Security (Instituto de Prevision Social, IPS) review retirement benefits, taking into consideration the higher cost of living.
Heightened security and transport disruptions around the National Congress and other areas of the capital on Feb. 15. Isolated scuffles between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Asuncion the morning of Feb. 15.
