UK: Significant rail disruptions reported between London, Reading, and Brighton Feb. 26

Major disruptions are being experienced on the rail network in southeast England on Feb. 26. Signal failures are causing significant disruptions to Thameslink and Southern rail services between East Croydon Station, in south London, and Brighton. Multiple services have been canceled, and significant delays will likely continue through at least midday. All Gatwick Express services are currently suspended. Separately, a landslide between Reading and London has prompted rail officials to suspend the use of two out of four available rail lines in the area. As a result, significant rail service disruptions are expected between Reading and Paddington Station in London throughout the day. Great Western Railway and the Elizabeth Line on the London Underground are reporting cancellations and significant delays.

Lingering rail disruptions will likely impact the affected lines after service officially resumes. Increased vehicular traffic congestion is possible in affected areas. Increased demand for available rail service will likely result in crowding on train station platforms and within carriages.
