Authorities confirmed multiple shots were fired near a parking garage west of the station and several people were hit. Two armed people were detained. The scene remains active and officials have cleared Union Station; police are advising the public to avoid the area until further notice.

The celebratory parade for the Super Bowl victory of the Kansas City Chiefs had occurred in the area earlier, and an unspecified number of people who attended remained afterwards. Heightened security, transport and business disruptions are likely in the area over the coming hours.
