Police are continuing their response to a shooting incident near the 1300 block of 4th Street SE in the Navy Yard neighborhood of Washington, DC, early Feb. 29. Authorities have detained one suspect but continue to investigate the incident; a significant police presence remain deployed in the area. Several roads near the scene remain closed, with residents nearby buildings still being instructed to stay inside.
The incident started before 06:00 when the suspect barricaded himself inside a building after shooting a security officer in the 400 block of M Street SE.
Heightened security, as well as associated road travel and business disruptions are likely in the area in the coming hours.
Avoid the affected area until authorities give the all-clear. Heed instructions of officials. Allow extra time to reach nearby destinations.
