At least three people killed and over a dozen more injured in a blast outside Kabul Bank in Kandahar, Afghanistan, March 21.

Warning

At least three people have died in a suicide bombing outside the Kabul Bank branch in Police District (PD) 1 of Kandahar, March 21. The blast, which occurred around 08:00, also injured more than 12 others, including civilians and Taliban personnel who had reportedly gathered to collect salaries. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident; officials may provide further details in the coming hours.

Heightened security and associated localized transport disruptions are likely until investigations end. Further security incidents are possible.

Avoid the impacted area until officials issue the all-clear. Plan accordingly for likely localized transport disruptions. Exercise caution near large concentrations of people and/or security personnel, government buildings, and landmarks. Heed all official transport and security advisories.

The risk of terror attacks remains high across Afghanistan, with the Islamic State (IS) acting as the most significant threat. Popular targets for bombings are crowded public places, Taliban-affiliated buildings and vehicles, and gatherings of ethnic, religious, or sectarian minorities in urban centers. Enhanced security measures are common in the aftermath of fatal attacks and during periods of symbolic significance, like the ongoing Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
